Final Project
The EDM310 Daily
For my final project I chose to make a newspaper with all of EDM310's sources. Although it is currently not working properly, I still had fun learning about paper.li. Paper.li updates news feeds from whatever you tell it to search. It can update hourly or daily. It can put all social media news in one place. I thought this was very interesting and it is something everyone can use.

Option 2,Action Reaction
For Khan vs. Karplus: Elevator Edition, he describes two Exhibits: A and B. Exhibit A is Sal Khan on elevators, the normal force in an elevator. It describes four scenarios happening in a sequence. The whole film is about four scenarios of speed in an elevator. It gives details about how the normal force changes when an elevator accelerates. Exhibit B consists of two videos and three phases. The whole exhibit is about his students constructing the conceptual and mathematical models themselves.Phase 1 is an exploration phase. Phase two is a phase about invention and bringing a scale up and down. The last phase is an application phase and task overview. The task overview is about a principals concerns about the elevators being unsafe for students and she wants to know if both the starting and stopping accelerations are too high. They are then asked to design an experiment to address her concerns. In his final remarks he says that,"the problem is the way Khan Academy is being promoted. The way the media sees it as “revolutionizing education.” The way people with power and money view education as simply “sit-and-get". He says that despite the fact that they are pseudo-teaching, he did not have a problem with Kahn Academy until just recently. Pseudo-teaching is "something you realize you’re doing after you’ve attempted a lesson which from the outset looks like it should result in student learning, but upon further reflection, you realize that the very lesson itself was flawed and involved minimal learning". The only problem with this is that it seems that very little learning is taking place.

Final Report PLN
The end result of me using Symbaloo for my personal learning network was interesting. I added many personal networks and enjoyed the process. I will enjoy continuing my PLN as I become a teacher and use it in my teaching curriculum.

Blog Post #12
For Blog Post #12 we were instructed to come up with instructions for future EDM310 students. I personally, as simple as it may be for others had the hardest time getting something embedded into my blog. Well a You Tube, is not that difficult to embed into your blog because all you have to do is copy and paste the embedded code. I found on Google...
1)I googled how to embed into a blog and I got this googling how to embed into a blog
2) Then I found these videos on You Tube

Skype Conversation with Ms.Cassidy
I found it so cool that Ms. Cassidy started using technology because she was all of a sudden given five computers in her classroom. She then decided that since there were five computers, she had to make a center for her young six and five year old's to use. She started to learn how to create web pages and others things on her blank computers. This soon turned into blogging and many other things she discovered with the use of internet. With the help of the government and give time off,she was able to build her program for her students. I think that from ten years ago when she was given these computers, she has built something really special that she does every year with her first graders. It is great that she was given the opportunity to teach her students about technology and not be discouraged by faculty, staff, and principals. She said she has an amazing technology coordinator who supports her and backs her up.I only hope that when I become a teacher that the parents of my students are supportive and want to know how their children are doing while learning about technology like Ms.Cassidy's are. Ms.Cassidy says to future teachers who think that teaching to younger children does not matter right now, that technology is here to stay and that we have to change because the world is changing. This really made me think about how important it is going to be for me to learn more about technology so that I can one day help my students.Watching the skype conversation with Ms.Cassidy and Dr.Strange and his class was really interesting and made me do a lot of thinking about my future teaching career.

Kahn Academy
Kahn Academy on PBS
This video on Kahn Academy did not come to a shock to me at all. It was awesome that he recieved recognition on his achievements. Kahn Academy has made thousands of videos, lessons, and other things accessible for people worldwide to learn tons of different things. I love this website and I will be looking forward to using it in the future.
iTunesU
iTunesU Profiles
The video on Arizona State University using iTunesU for profiles is very interesting. It just goes to show that many schools are using iTunesU to keep track of music, lessons, homework, websites, and many other things just from the touch of their mobile phones or computers. If I used technology such as the iPhone or iPod, I would definitely use the iTunesU. I do however think that this is an awesome resource for many students, teachers, and parents.
TED
Nathan Myhrvold: Cooking as never seen before
This video is about Nathan Myhrvold showing people how food has never been viewed before. He used an example of how steaming broccoli can become more technological.Although this video is a little too much for me to want to look at(I would rather read a book about it), this website is really useful. All of the videos on TED is very reliable and is something I an my students could definitely use.

Blog Post #10
Do you Teach or Do You Educate?
The video starts out with defining the verb to teach in five ways. The first definition they give is to show or explain how to do something. The second is to encourage someone to accept as a fact or a principle. The third was to give information about or instruction in.The fourth, to cause someone to learn or understand something. And the last one, to induce by example or punishment to do or not to do something.
All of these definitions are true, but there has to be more than saying you teach children. To educate a student is to both teach and learn. I want to be able to educate my students as well as myself.
Don't Let Them Take Pencils Home
I find it shocking that one person can blame one article on low test scores. Not only did she bombard this teacher for letting him let his students take home pencils, but she had the nerve to stereotype all students for being low test takers if they use pencils at home. It may be true for some students, but for all of them is a little much. I am glad that he stuck up for his students and let others know that this was not the case for his class. Very interesting story to read!

What I've Learned This Year
I like how he admits to being scared and inexperienced, but still willing to learn and share his experiences to benefit others. I can only hope to be as eager as he is to share with other educators and students. Mr.McClung makes a great point that teaching is not just about the teacher, it is about making sure there is a strong sense of student comprehension. Making sure the students are the focus of your class is a very important task when creating lessons. He says that, "No lesson is ever perfect. The lesson you teach and the one you plan are always different".I have a hard time of letting things just flow and wanting to control the plan, so I hope and pray that I can let the class just pan out as it goes.McClung makes a strong point to never stop learning and keep faith in your students. I really valued McClung's advice and only hope to learn as much as he did in his first year of teaching.

This is How We Dream
By: Richard E. Miller
Richard Miller is a man with many ideas for the future educators. He believes that we should all share our knowledge infinitely. I agree that as educators we should want to share all that we know are are learning with others. Miller also says, " We as educators must be in the business of sharing ideas freely". We as teachers should want to share our ideas if it means helping others and achieving dreams. He sees using digital composure one day completely instead of students using a Word document. How neat would that be if no one ever used Word documents. It is interesting to think that teachers really have not begun to understand how profound these changes in technology are. Technology allows us to articulate our dreams and share them with others, and I think that is pretty amazing.

Carly Pugh's Blog #12
Carly's Blog post #12 is amazing. I could not ever see myself being able to put together an assignment like that. Although, I truly would love to be able to one day for my students.Creating a playlist for her assignment is a great way to teach students to learn on their own and find what they think is helpful and interesting. Being able to find these videos and share them with others is a great process.I enjoyed reading why she chose this assignment and the video ending her post as well.
Edm 310 For Dummies
The Chipper Series
The Chipper Series
These videos were great. The camera work makes me feel really horrible that I can barely take a decent picture.I hope to someday create a video on how frustrated I once was during EDM310. It would be amazing if Dr. Strange wrote a book! I would definitely read it and suggest it to others. As far as directing one of these videos goes, I am not too sure. But I would love to demonstrate what I have learned or let others know how frustrating things can be but how you can get over them.
Learn to Change, Change to Learn
This video was really interesting. It had teachers, authors, and CEO's from all over the place. They all agreed on the same thing, that technology is so important for the future. Not only is it important for students, but it is important for teachers. There are so many opportunities for children and teachers if we just use them. All of these sources are out there for kids to use, but they are not being used.
One man said,"technology is not a choice, it has created a world". It is a world that we should all want to participate in and live in. Another person said, "It is about connectivity, access, relationship, and community". It is so important for us as educators to give our students the opportunity to be great at something. Technology is just one large way in which we can do so.

Blog Post #7
Randy Pausch Last Lecture: Achieving Your Childhood Dreams
This video was amazing! More than amazing to be honest. Once you get over the sadness factor, you really start to listen to the true meaning of this video. I can really appreciate what he is saying because you know he is saying it from a good place. Pausch's video not only makes you want to become more technology friendly but, he also makes you want to become a better person for yourself and for those around you.
I like how he started off with, "we can not change the cards we are dealt, we can only change how we play the hand. This is definitely true and also something that most of us do not take the time to consider.Pausch focuses on:childhood dreams, enabling the dreams of others, and lessons learned. The whole speech(his last speech) truly focuses on being selfless. He focuses on the inspiration and permission to dream is huge and how it is all about fundamentals. A major point in life that he points out is that when you are messing up and no one is saying anything to you about it, that is when you know they have given up.
One dream of his growing up was to meet Captain Kirk. He had always wondered why he was on the show because compared to everyone else he did not have a main set of skills, but he later figured out what he did have was leadership and leadership is big. In life we sometimes do not always push ourselves as hard as we should and we often think everything/everyone is in our way. Pausch says,"Brick walls are there for a reason; they let us prove how badly we want things.
Randy Pausch was told by a professor that the best gift a teacher can give is to have someone become self reflective. I hope that when I become a teacher that I can enable my students to be self reflective. One of the closing statements Pausch made was how to get people to help you. He said that karma, telling the truth, being earnest, apologizing, and focusing on others will always help you get where you need to be in life. I thoroughly enjoyed everything that Dr. Pausch said in his final speech.

C4T #1&2 Summary
My comments for teachers was from a lady named Kim Cofino. Her blog, http://kimcofino.com/blog/, was about always learning and teaching technology abroad. Her blogs: blogs as showcase portfolios, see you in Shanghai, PD with a purpose, Quakestories, and many more are insightful stories about her as a teacher and other teachers getting technology into the classrooms in the United States and around the world.Cofino writes,"I’m so glad we had the opportunity to implement a labsite-style professional development sessions here at YIS. I feel strongly that this is the absolute best model for in-school PD that I’ve seen – ensuring that learning is happening as close to the classroom as possible". I hope that when I become a teacher I can write blogs and keep other teachers and students informed as well as Cofino does. I really enjoyed her ventures and topics on teaching.

Wendy Drexler: The Networked Student
I think this video shows a great way that students can use technology to learn as well as network for their future careers and learning. This is also a great way to show students and teachers that they can use technology to create sources for not only them to learn but for us as teachers. This video allows teachers to not feel discouraged when technology is introduced into the classroom. Teachers will always be needed, maybe just to a lesser degree.
At the end they ask Why do students even need teachers in this kind of situation. Most people forget all of the responsibilities that a teacher has other than just teaching. A teacher is always needed for guidance, organization, and a source to look to. The teachers help his or her students to build networks and make more opportunities for the future. I enjoyed the little reminder of the importance of technology as well as teachers in this video.
A Seventh Grader's Personal Learning Environment
This seventh graders personal learning environment is amazing. I hope one day I can put something together like she did. It was so interesting to see how she had so much and connected it all. I only dream that I could have had the opportunity to learn the way she is in seventh grade. She did an awesome job narrating her page!

Michael Stanton seemed to know an awful lot of stuff for something soooo horrible. Everything that he pointed out to me seemed like an absolutely awesome idea. All the things that smart boards can do are interesting and so great for students. His two arguments were: 1)Smartboards don’t change the model that’s broken. They just make that model way more expensive and 2)Smartboards are an administrative cop out. Administrators like Smartboards because when they spend money on technology they need to spend a lot of it and it needs to be on things they can point to and count.
TimeOutDad said...one of the posts in response to Stanton http://theinnovativeeducator.blogspot.com/2010/05/why-smartboards-are-dumb-initiative.html.
I would have to completely disagree with everything Stanton has to say.In TimeOutDads response he says back to Stanton, "there are other cheaper ways, but the other ways are not easier". I would have to agree with all the wonderful things the Smart Board can do. Just because it costs more than most would agree to spend, does not mean it is not worth it.
Why I Hate Whiteboards by Bill Ferriter
I understand when Ferriter says that some schools buy technology just to say that have it, but that is not always the case for all schools and classrooms. These smart boards are more than a bunch of money. They are the future in which our children are going to learn and grow up in our world. Technology is apart of our lives and we might as well jump on the bandwagon sometime.
K Martin responds at his blog, http://www.edweek.org/persona.html?U=1113147&plckUserId=1113147. He makes a great argument when he says that,"Our student population is in constant need of more background/world knowledge, visual access to content, and representation of both languages they are working with - English print and American Sign Language". There are other reason out there for these technologies other than just to waste money. That is not the over all objective here.

First Graders Create Their Own Read Along Audiobook
This pod-casting with first graders is an amazing idea for students to not only create their own scripts but to follow along with their classmates. These students made certain sounds to let the other students know when a new script was beginning.
Integrating ITC into the Classroom
Pod-casts are more informative than most people think and easy to follow.Watching this video helped me to familiarize myself with the benefits of pod-casting. I feel that pod-casting should be used in the classroom to give students a different way to learn.
The Practical Principals
Melinda Miller and Scott Elias
These examples reminded me of just how useful pod-casts can be. I would have never thought to use pod-casting inside the classroom. But the more I watch them and made one of my own, I realized how useful they are and it makes me excited to continue the use of pod-casting

Don't Teach Your Kids This Stuff. Please. By Scott McLeod
http://bigthink.com/ideas/30410#comments
Well thanks to Google, I found out who Dr. Scott McLeod is. Dr. McLeod is an Associate Professor in the Educational Administration program at Iowa State University. He also is the Director of the UCEA Center for the Advanced Study of Technology Leadership in Education (CASTLE).He has received numerous national awards for his technology leadership work, including big shout outs from the cable industry, Phi Delta Kappa, and the National School Boards Association. In Spring 2011 he visited Canterbury Fellow at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. Dr. McLeod blogs regularly about technology leadership issues at Dangerously Irrelevant at BigThink.com.
The blog, Don't Teach Your Kids This Stuff, is an amazing little poem about technology and its downers as well as an insight on the future of technology. Dr. McLeod warns us about the bad in the internet, but makes it clear that there is some definite good. At first the poem kind of made me mad how it only stressed the negatives about technology and the internet. After I really thought about what the message of the poem was saying, I felt like a agreed with exactly what Dr. McLeod is trying to say. I feel that the message is that even though there is bad in technology, teachers and parents should not shut it out.
The iSchool Initiative
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68KgAcx_9jU
The iSchool Initiative is produced by a senior in High School named Travis. I really like the idea of having the iSchool in the classroom one day. But I feel like its a matter of time. And it could take a while for teachers, parents, and school boards to agree. When I was a senior in high school, the school decided to make every freshman have a MACbook. The freshmen did EVERYTHING on their MACS. It was cool to see the students learning everything from their computers and I wish I had the opportunity to use technology as much as they did.
The iSchool is related to this particular students interest in fixing the public education system. There are being huge budget cuts, teachers being let go, and classes becoming larger and larger. He asks the question, does technology belong in the classroom? I would have to say that technology is a must in the classroom. Travis argues that the future of iSchool could dramatically change the way public education is viewed. He makes a good point that it would lower our carbon footprints by no more use of pencils, paper, or books. The APPS that Travis described as being helpful in the classroom are: email, chemical touch,U.S. Constitution,World Wiki, USA Presidents, star walk, formulae, recorder, calculators, notes, calender, classics, and iHomework. All of these things he explained are very interesting and would be awesome to see inside the classroom. Parents would be able to access their childs account from any phone or computer. The students would also be limited as to what websites they could visit.
You Can't be my teacher By: Darren Cannell.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VSymMbMYHA&feature=youtu.be
The video You can't be my teacher by Darren Cannell is a video with his son giving facts about technology and how teachers should be able to use it in the classroom. I think the video is a little obnoxious but still makes the points very clear about teachers and technology. A kid should be given a teacher that is going to be able to teach them things about technology and help them learn through technology. If they are going to be living in a tech world, they will need to be properly taught how to live daily with the use of technology.
Eric Whitacre's Virtual Chior
http://techliterateteacher.blogspot.com/2010/05/eric-whitakers-virtual-choir-lux.html
Wow. This video, Lux Arumque' by Eric Whitacres is absolutely amazing. There are no words to describe how cool this really is. I love that it is one hundred and eighty-five people who have never met and put something like this together. Through the use of what looks like Skype, these people were able to rehearse and put together an amazing video that shows just how much you can do with technology.
Just to know that almost two hundred people put together such a well collaborated song through technology makes you appreciate technology. It also makes me wonder just how far technology can and will go in the future. Watching this video makes me want to become more capable of using all of the technology resources out there.
Teaching in the 21st Century
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmskHM0V2Ig&feature=player_embedded%23!
I thought that the teaching in the 21st century video by Kevin Roberts was a good way to think about what it really means to teach. Roberts states that our role in the lives of students is obsolete because of technology. Students can find information on anything, anytime, anywhere. Blogging, tweeting, Facebook, Google, and more sources are things that students can use to obtain information at any given time. He says that teachers are no longer the source of knowledge and we are only filters. I agree when he says how we are filters because we are the ones who learn and then teach students in hope of learning something in exchange.
Roberts thinks that our teaching curriculum should be changed to be based on skills that we use everyday. A good list of things he says in the video describing the way we should be teaching our students is: create, evaluate, analyze, apply, understand, and remember. I like the statement: "We need to rethink the tools we use and the types of problems we ask students to solve". It is important that we do not underestimate our students and at the same time expect too much. The big questions here is what does it mean to teach.

Michael Wesch: A Vision of Students Today
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGCJ46vyR9o&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Ftechliterateteacher%2Eblogspot%2Ecom%2F&feature=player_embedded
When I first started to watch A Vision of Students Today, I was not really too sure about how the clip was going to turn out. I did not really like the writing on the chairs. I was not sure what they meant by chairs can not talk but students can. I guess they were trying to say that majority of students are not going to say anything about the struggles in school with technology and other daily issues because they all have to face them and eventually deal with them one way or another. I definitely agree with the director of the clips ideas and thought process with the facts that each student would hold up.
As far as adding or changing anything to the film, I am honestly not quite sure if I would add anything. Maybe changing the way they introduced the film would be more effective, but other than that the facts are honest, and accurate from my viewpoint. I like how they involved students and real life decisions, issues, and problems throughout every college persons life. No matter how large or small these problems are in a persons life, each one of us experiences these things in some point throughout our college careers.
"It's Not About the Technology" by Kelly Hines
http://eduratireview.com/2009/04/its-not-about-technology.html/
In "It's Not About the Technology", by Kelly Hines, she makes a strong point to say that throwing technology into the classrooms is not going to automatically fix everything. Just because it is in the classroom does not mean it will teach students the way they need to be taught. It also does not mean that teachers who have technology in the classrooms will be able to provide a proper structure in the classroom. Teachers have to want to teach as well as learn. I believe that all teachers should never stop learning.
Because there is so much technology being thrown into the mix of teaching, it is important for teachers to always keep up. Just because it is there, does not mean it is going to fix anything.Teachers must be aware of how students are taking on technology. Teachers should want to keep learning in order to keep their students active and wanting to learn.
Karl Fisch: Is It Okay to Be A Technologically Illiterate Teacher?
http://thefischbowl.blogspot.com/2007/09/is-it-okay-to-be-technologically.html
I would most definitely have to agree that all teachers should be technologically literate. I feel like a lot of teachers today give up and say," I never had to learn this way and I turned out just fine...so why should I have to become accustomed to it now?". I love the bold yet honest comment by Mr. Fisch ,"If a teacher today is not technologically literate - and is unwilling to make the effort to learn more - it's equivalent to a teacher 30 years ago who didn't know how to read and write". I feel like it is sad, yet true. Times have definitely changed and teachers have to adjust to that in order to fulfill the requirements that life keeps challenging us with. Kids these days have much more to deal with and learn in order to keep up with life.
Teachers should be able to use a computer, SMART boards, and the many other technologies out there. It is so important for teachers to be able to learn how to use these because kids are going to grow up and have to use these same technologies in everyday life.
Gary Hayes Social Media Count
I think that Gary Hayes Social Media Count is extremely interesting for those who use technology all the time. It shows those who use technology as well as those who do not just how important and vital it is to a person. Statistics show here that all types of technology are constantly being used. Thus, proving to the technologically illiterate that whether or not they choose to believe it, technology is being used and they might as well jump on the band wagon.
As a student studying to become a teacher, these rates quickening by the second show just how important e-mailing, blogging, networking, and all the many other things are in life. They are clearly being used and must be noticed by those teaching. Noticing these rates should make teachers want to pick up the pace and get on the same page as technology.

Did You Know?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cL9Wu2kWwSY
The Did You Know 3.0 video makes you wake up and realize how valuable time, people, and resources truly are. This video gives great and interesting statistics that are real and a little bit scary when you think about it. But scary is real and real is life. To think that the United States is the most technologically advanced Country is clearly wrong. The United States is the nineteenth country to have the fastest Broadband Internet Penetration. If we thought our computers and resources were quick,we thought wrong. According to this video,we live in "exponential times". We are preparing ourselves and others for careers that do not exist.
Another great question is what in the world did we do before Google? Who did we turn to when we had a "dumb" question or an illness we wanted to check up on. All of the statistics and facts given in this video made me really think about what did people do without technology. I thought it was interesting that the first text message was sent in 1992. Now, all we depend on is text messaging. We have completely cut out personal contact or telephone conversations out of our lives. Texting seems to be the easiest and simplest way to let someone know something without having to speak or come in contact with someone. Time is everything. But what does it all mean?
Mr.Winkle Wakes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lm1sCsl2MQY
This video is really cute and has a cartoon character named Mr. Winkle. This video by Mathew Needleman is about Mr. Winkle, who wakes up after one hundred years to realize that the whole world has changed except for in one way. To Mr. Winkle everything around him has changed. From cars to hospitals, to technology and streets. But when Mr. Winkle enters a school, he is relieved and remembers the school being the exact way it once was when he was in school, and he likes this.
I would actually have to disagree with the video for the most part and say that the video is completely false. Yes, I am sure that technology has changed over one hundred years, but to say that school has not is a little far off. I guess you could say that the overall way of kids sitting in a row and the teacher standing in front of the class is the same, but the way kids are taught and teachers teach is completely different. Teachers have new ways to teach kids in multiple ways. This video makes a point that technology changes over time, but they forget to add that school has also advanced.
Sir Ken Robinson: The Importance of Creativity
http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/ken_robinson_says_schools_kill_creativity.html
I absolutely loved this video about how creativity is taken for granted in schools and in every other way possible. Ken Robinson says that schools kill creativity. Until watching this video I would have never agreed. Ken Robinson talks about the ways in which students are overlooked or considered a mess because of a learning disability they may have or a lack of interest in mathematics. Children today who are creative think they are not creative because what they are good at is not valued in the school environment. Robinson defines creativity as the process of original ideas that have value. Children have the greatest creativity because they are not afraid to be wrong and explore the wrong.
It is obvious but definitely overlooked that if you do not make mistakes, you are not being an individual. We are experiencing academic inflation more and more as the years go by and the technology advances. Kids go to school to get a job to do one thing, but when they achieve a four year degree to undertake that job, a Masters degree is now required and the next thing you know you will need a PHD. Robinson says that the three main components of intelligence are: 1)diversity, 2) dynamic, and 3)distinct. It is our overall goal to see our creative capacities for the richness they are and to see our children for the hope that they are.
Cecelia Gault(Young Student in Finland) Interviews Sir Ken Robinson
http://blogs.scholastic.com/kidspress/2010/09/breaking-creative-myths.html
A young girl from Finland interviews Sir Ken Robinson on intelligence. She starts her interview by asking how the schools can change to make kids learning experience better in the long run. Robinson responds by saying the curriculum needs to change and become more balanced and also to make better use out of the technology we are given. Robinson then goes on to explain what he thinks are the "three myths of creativity". The first on is that only certain people are creative. The second is that creativity is only about certain things. And the third and final myth is that you are or you are not creative and you can not change it. Cecelia goes on to ask what he thinks the definition of intelligence is. He responds by saying intelligence is diverse and is a process of making sense of the world around us. I agree with Robinson's three myths completely. I believe that just because every person is not creative in the exact same way means that they are not creative enough or at all for that matter.
Vicki Davis: Harness Your Students' Digital Smarts
http://www.edutopia.org/digital-generation-teachers-vicki-davis-video
Vicki Davis is one amazing teacher who has created a source for teens all over the world to learn from one another and teach themselves as well new ways of learning. Davis believes that every student is fully capable of learning. The way children are taught to learn has to be more than a piece of paper and a pencil. I completely agree that every child has a different way of learning in order to succeed. She has taught kids to be comfortable with technology. If you empower you will have a better environment. The things Vicki Davis has taught her classes and is learning herself is absolutely amazing. Her Digiteen program is awesome that her and another lady created. This gives teens the opportunity to write about what they are learning and to learn about what other teens are learning.
Randy Pausch-Time Management
Well watching this video makes me realize how much time we are given in a day to do so much. I myself have A.D.D. and I have a hard time organizing my time in a orderly fashion. Randy Pausch makes points about why we ask why are we doing certain things? He says that eventually, we will stop asking and just do it. I guess this is true when you really think about it. There is a huge difference in doing the right things adequately and doing the wrong things beautifully. I completely understand what Mr. Pausch is talking about when he says we need to figure out what things need to be done and how they should be done.
Blog Post #1
Hi, my name is Sarah Nelson. I was born in Nassau Bay, Texas and raised in Pensacola, Florida. I am twenty years old and I am now attending the University of South Alabama for the second time. My first year of college I came to University of South Alabama at the very last minute. I absolutely loved being here, but my mother really wanted me to come home and go to the local university(University of West Florida). I was miserable at home and decided I had to come back to Mobile. So, that is exactly what I did. Now I am here at South Alabama in the elementary education program and could not be happier.
There is actually no reason exactly why I decided to major in elementary education. My Aunt Melissa that lives in Orlando, Florida is a teacher as well as a counselor. She has received teacher of the year award in the state of Florida and is a true inspiration for me jumping into teaching. My cousin attended the University of Arkansas and got her Bachelors degree and her Masters in FIVE years! I only wish we had a program where I could do everything in five years!! I do love children. When I moved home, I watched my cousins three kids(all under the age of four). I grew strongly attached to them and watching them made me realize that this is really what I want to do. I want to be around children because they always make me happy.
I consider myself to be very outgoing and loud. My roommate is also in education(special education). Having someone else going through the same classes makes it easier to relate what I am experiencing and going through. I love animals, especially dogs. I miss my yellow lab, Belle, very much. I sometimes think I miss her more than I miss some of my family. I am looking forward to continuing my journey in becoming an elementary education teacher.
