Michael Wesch: A Vision of Students Today
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGCJ46vyR9o&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Ftechliterateteacher%2Eblogspot%2Ecom%2F&feature=player_embedded

When I first started to watch A Vision of Students Today, I was not really too sure about how the clip was going to turn out. I did not really like the writing on the chairs. I was not sure what they meant by chairs can not talk but students can. I guess they were trying to say that majority of students are not going to say anything about the struggles in school with technology and other daily issues because they all have to face them and eventually deal with them one way or another. I definitely agree with the director of the clips ideas and thought process with the facts that each student would hold up.

As far as adding or changing anything to the film, I am honestly not quite sure if I would add anything. Maybe changing the way they introduced the film would be more effective, but other than that the facts are honest, and accurate from my viewpoint. I like how they involved students and real life decisions, issues, and problems throughout every college persons life. No matter how large or small these problems are in a persons life, each one of us experiences these things in some point throughout our college careers.

"It's Not About the Technology" by Kelly Hines
http://eduratireview.com/2009/04/its-not-about-technology.html/

In "It's Not About the Technology", by Kelly Hines, she makes a strong point to say that throwing technology into the classrooms is not going to automatically fix everything. Just because it is in the classroom does not mean it will teach students the way they need to be taught. It also does not mean that teachers who have technology in the classrooms will be able to provide a proper structure in the classroom. Teachers have to want to teach as well as learn. I believe that all teachers should never stop learning.

Because there is so much technology being thrown into the mix of teaching, it is important for teachers to always keep up. Just because it is there, does not mean it is going to fix anything.Teachers must be aware of how students are taking on technology. Teachers should want to keep learning in order to keep their students active and wanting to learn.

Karl Fisch: Is It Okay to Be A Technologically Illiterate Teacher?
http://thefischbowl.blogspot.com/2007/09/is-it-okay-to-be-technologically.html

I would most definitely have to agree that all teachers should be technologically literate. I feel like a lot of teachers today give up and say," I never had to learn this way and I turned out just fine...so why should I have to become accustomed to it now?". I love the bold yet honest comment by Mr. Fisch ,"If a teacher today is not technologically literate - and is unwilling to make the effort to learn more - it's equivalent to a teacher 30 years ago who didn't know how to read and write". I feel like it is sad, yet true. Times have definitely changed and teachers have to adjust to that in order to fulfill the requirements that life keeps challenging us with. Kids these days have much more to deal with and learn in order to keep up with life.

Teachers should be able to use a computer, SMART boards, and the many other technologies out there. It is so important for teachers to be able to learn how to use these because kids are going to grow up and have to use these same technologies in everyday life.

Gary Hayes Social Media Count

I think that Gary Hayes Social Media Count is extremely interesting for those who use technology all the time. It shows those who use technology as well as those who do not just how important and vital it is to a person. Statistics show here that all types of technology are constantly being used. Thus, proving to the technologically illiterate that whether or not they choose to believe it, technology is being used and they might as well jump on the band wagon.

As a student studying to become a teacher, these rates quickening by the second show just how important e-mailing, blogging, networking, and all the many other things are in life. They are clearly being used and must be noticed by those teaching. Noticing these rates should make teachers want to pick up the pace and get on the same page as technology.

  1. Hi Sarah,

I agree with you believing that teachers should be tech. literate. The way society is changing teachers should be able to keep up and should have to know something about technology to be able to teach the students. How can you have a tech. illiterate teacher, teaching students who will be put into a technological society? Teachers should be REQUIRED to have or learn some type of technological experience.

  2. Yes, the Wesch video was about students. But it also had a lot to say about how instruction happens (or doesn't happen) in schools. What do you have to say about that aspect of the video?

Well written. Thoughtful. Keep it up!

  3. I like your comments on Ms. Hines. We as educators have to continue to learn.

I also agree placing technology in the classroom isn't going to automatically fix everything but it may spark an interest in technology if it is used. One can't really know how a child needs to be taught until they are submerged in that environment with that child. But placing technology in the classroom should stimulate and facilitate the learning process.

I am not sure what you mean about "proper education". What is your definition of a proper education? At some point learning how to read and write was at the end of that definition. I think that even those who assume the responsibility of becoming an educator must be prepared to not only teach and learn but collaborate, facilitate and educate. And to me having technology in the classroom is not only proper but should be required.

Good job on your blogs! Keep up the good work.

  4. Hey Sarah,

I like your comments on "it's Not All About the Technology". I think that with this class and all classes that we take in college it is important to remember our place as educators. We often forget that students are very important to the future world and we are the ones teaching them. It is awesome to think that we will have such an impact on students lives. But, we must remember we have a great responsibility.

A lot of students have a problem with Mr. Fisch's quote: "If a teacher today is not technologically literate - and is unwilling to make the effort to learn more - it's equivalent to a teacher 30 years ago who didn't know how to read and write". I was just curious in why you thought he is accurate. I agree with his quote also.

    Good post Sarah,
